Leonard Ravenhill on Shrinking Churches

You know, we’ve got about fifty different churches in Dallas and they are all the “fastest growing church”. … Isn’t that crazy? You know what I tell them? I say, “I’ve got a friend called Jesus and he had the fastest … what … shrinking Church. He preached to five thousand, then to four thousand, then down to five hundred, and then he had eleven.”

“Will you also go away?” He said.

  1. at first.. when i read this.. i was like.. nodding my head in total agreement.. ..
    but then.... something bothered me...

i prayed about it all day... and yeah... He preached to 5,000... then to 4, then to 500... then to 11.. .. .. but benson.. .. He's preaching to millions and millons of people not just in one geographic location.. but ALL AROUND THE FREAKIN GLOBE!!!!!

after thinking about it... and being a part of an extrememly fast growing church here in korea... sure... there are those who are there just to be there... but you can't deny God being in the midst... He's truly taking the 5 loaves and 2 fish and there are basketfulls left over....

    :) just wanted to share!

  3. I love Leonard Ravenhill!
I also love Keith Green's music, much of it parallels what Ravenhill is so passionate about, being that they were friends. I really love LR's book "Why Revival Tarries" which is more of a call to prayer. How appropriate.

I am a musician, and I would be honored if you would check out my site. LR has inspired some of my songs. All my music is free for download. Anyway, I just thought I'd share.
